- To commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) to the Government of India and Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) have come together to bring the best of science and technology to implement waste management in India.
- Principal Scientific Advisor to the Govt of India, Prof K. Vijay Raghavan and Director, IIT Delhi, Prof V. Ramgopal Rao signed a Memorandum of Understanding today in New Delhi for setting up a Centre of Excellence for Waste to Wealth Technologies for implementation of sustainable, scientific and technological solutions for waste management, through validation and deployment of available technologies for transformation of waste to wealth
- The waste to wealth mission project has been approved under the recently constituted Prime Minister's Science Technology and Innovation Advisory Council (PM-STIAC), which is an overarching body for assessment, creation and implementation of major scientific, technology and innovation interventions for India.
- The partnership will provide an effective platform for stakeholders to bring together integrated approaches for effective recycle, reuse and resource recovery of waste.

- Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu unveiled commemorative postage stamps on the 750th birth anniversary of ‘Vedanta Desikan’ a religious philosopher, at the Sardar Patel Conference hall at the Vice-President’s secretariat on 2nd May.
- Mr. Naidu praised the postal department for the initiative saying the release of the stamp was “to give inspiration to the new generation to follow the footsteps of great people and do something good for the society.” He also spoke on the guru at length.

- The final jury comprising Gopalkrishna Gandhi, Nilita Vachani and Dr A R Venkatachalapathy Friday unanimously decided on Nileena's work as the winner, says an ACJ release
- "The Jury arrived effortlessly at the unanimous decision that in the most impressive set of short-listed entries, one entry stood out.
- "For its detailed, exhaustive and persuasive investigation and its clear exposition the 2018 Asian College of Journalism's Award for Investigative Journalism goes to Nileena M S for her article Coalgate 2.0' published in The Caravan.
- "The piece meets the criteria of what comprises a solid work of investigative journalism, combining extensive research uncovering new evidence to reveal a truth, hitherto unknown to most, and of essential public interest," said the jury citation.
- The award, which comprises a trophy, a citation and Rs lakh 200,000/- cash prize , was presented to the winner by John Micklethwait, Editor-in-Chief of Bloomberg News, who was the chief guest at the journalism school's annual convocation ceremony.
